Content creator Jordan Howlett, known online as jordan_the_stallion8, went viral in January 2024 after posting a video on TikTok and Instagram about constantly being mistaken for someone much older than his actual age of 26. The video has been watched over 17 million times across platforms and sparked a massive conversation about why Gen Z appears to be aging faster than previous generations.
The clip opened with a podcast host from the Staying Up Podcast explaining that Gen Z is aging really rapidly. Howlett then cut in with his own take, saying it is mainly because of stress. He told viewers that we live in a time where millennials look way younger for their age while Gen Z looks way older. The observation clearly struck a nerve, because the video took off immediately and dominated social media discussions for weeks.
Jordan's Personal Experience
Howlett shared several examples of how his appearance has led to awkward situations. He said that when he and his mother go out in public, people assume she is his younger sister rather than his parent. When he tells people he is going to hang out with his family, they assume he is talking about his children. He does not have kids. He is still the child, he told viewers, clearly amused and frustrated in equal measure.
One of the most memorable anecdotes involved Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Howlett recalled a time when The Rock signed an autograph for him but assumed it was for his son. The story perfectly illustrated the disconnect between Howlett's actual age and how the world perceives him. He has also been compared to Method Man of the Wu Tang Clan, who is 52, more than twice Howlett's age. Howlett has said he takes the comparison as a compliment since Method Man looks great for his age.
The Gen Z Aging Theory
In interviews following the viral moment, Howlett expanded on his theory. He told Business Insider that he believes the accelerated aging among Gen Z is largely driven by stress related to jobs and the economy. Gen Z entered the workforce during a period of rising costs, stagnant wages, and a global pandemic, all of which have taken a physical and mental toll. Howlett argued that the constant pressure of navigating an uncertain economic landscape is showing up in how young people look and feel.
The theory resonated with millions of viewers who shared their own experiences in the comments. Many Gen Z users agreed that they are frequently mistaken for being older, while millennials chimed in to say they are often told they look younger than their actual age. The contrast fueled a broader discussion about lifestyle differences between the generations, including diet, skincare routines, stress levels, and social media usage.
Who Is Jordan Howlett
Howlett was born on April 12, 1997, and has built a significant following on TikTok and Instagram with content that ranges from food reviews to lifestyle commentary. He was notably confused with food critic Keith Lee by actress Taraji P. Henson at the 2024 BET Awards, which became its own viral moment. Howlett's ability to turn personal experiences into relatable content has made him one of the more recognizable Gen Z creators on social media, and the aging video cemented his place in the broader cultural conversation.
