Privacy Policy

This policy describes privacy practices for The Talk Lounge website, member accounts, newsletters, browser notifications, advertising, submissions, reader support, business services, and related first party features. Third party websites and services have their own privacy practices.

• Account and profile information: information you provide such as name, email, username, profile image, date of birth, location, phone number, gender, interests, and other optional account fields.
• Authentication and security information: password hashes, session records, verification state, two factor authentication state, security events, and limited network or device information used to protect accounts and services.
• Reader activity: bookmarks, follows, comments, reactions, notifications, and reading history when the account Reading History setting is enabled.
• Communications and submissions: newsletter preferences, contact messages, career applications, editorial tips, music submissions, advertiser inquiries, and other information you choose to send.
• Technical and usage information: request logs, browser and device information, referring pages, performance information, and first party analytics or advertising events where permitted by your consent choices and applicable law.
• Payment and business records: transaction identifiers, amounts, payment status, refunds, disputes, invoices, credits, campaign records, and payout records. Full payment card numbers are processed by Stripe and are not stored by TTL.
• Browser notification information: web push subscription endpoints, encryption keys, notification preferences, and delivery state when you choose browser notifications.

• Provide, secure, and operate the site and member accounts.
• Deliver saved stories, follows, comments, notifications, newsletters, and selected personalization.
• Process reader support, business services, advertising, writer payouts, refunds, disputes, and financial reconciliation.
• Review editorial submissions, moderation reports, career applications, and business inquiries.
• Measure site performance and advertising where the required consent or legal basis exists.
• Detect abuse, fraud, account compromise, duplicate payment attempts, and operational failures.
• Comply with legal obligations and preserve records that must be retained.

TTL separates essential storage from optional analytics, marketing, and personalization. Optional categories are controlled through the consent panel. TTL also recognizes supported Global Privacy Control signals and treats an active signal as an opt out of nonessential analytics, marketing, and personalization on that browser.

TTL uses service providers to operate the publication. Depending on the feature and current configuration, those providers may include payment processing, cloud hosting and storage, content delivery, transactional email, analytics, advertising, authentication, and social or video platforms used for user requested embeds.

Third party analytics, advertising inventory, and social embed scripts are not loaded through TTL unless the relevant consent is present. YouTube playback is click activated and uses privacy enhanced playback.

TTL may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect users or the service, investigate abuse or fraud, or complete a corporate transaction subject to applicable safeguards.

TTL does not sell personal information for money. Certain disclosures to advertising or analytics partners can be treated as sale or sharing under some privacy laws when used for cross context behavioral advertising. Where applicable, TTL honors opt out requests and supported browser privacy preference signals. First party, nontracked sponsorship creative may still be displayed after an opt out.

Members can manage supported privacy settings from Settings, including whether a profile is public, whether followers are allowed, newsletter preferences, browser notification preferences, and whether personal Reading History is retained. Turning Reading History off clears the member's personal history and prevents new personal history writes while anonymous aggregate measurement remains separate.

Authenticated members can request an account data export from Settings. Exports are generated through a private queued workflow, exclude authentication secrets, are available only to the owning account, and expire after seven days. Export files are stored separately from public media storage.

Self service account closure requires recent authentication. When an eligible account is closed, TTL immediately disables access, revokes tracked sessions, removes or pseudonymizes direct account identifiers, removes personalization and notification data, redacts authored comment and message content where appropriate, and queues controlled profile media for deletion.

TTL does not hard delete every database record because financial, editorial, moderation, security, legal, consent, and suppression records can require continued retention. Retained records are limited or pseudonymized where appropriate. For example, comment structure can be retained so another member's replies are not destroyed, and a minimal suppression record can be retained so a closed or unsubscribed address is not accidentally added back to marketing outreach.

Account closure can be blocked while an active paid subscription still requires cancellation or when closing a Super Admin account would orphan platform control.

Retention depends on the type of information, the purpose for which it was collected, operational requirements, disputes, security needs, and applicable legal obligations. TTL deletes, expires, deidentifies, or pseudonymizes data when it is no longer needed for the supported purpose. Provider controlled retention can also depend on the provider configuration and applicable agreement.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or an opt out of certain sale or sharing activities. Rights and verification requirements vary by jurisdiction.

TTL accounts are intended for people age 13 or older. The signup service rejects a supplied date of birth showing the person is under 13. Additional age or parental consent rules can apply by location. If you believe a child has submitted personal information inappropriately, contact privacy@thetalklounge.com.

TTL and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where applicable law requires additional transfer protections, TTL and its providers are expected to use the contractual or legal mechanisms appropriate to the service and transfer.

TTL uses technical and organizational controls that include TLS, password hashing, server side authorization, session revocation, optional two factor authentication, rate limiting, audit records, private storage for sensitive exports, provider webhook verification, and restricted administrative access. No security program can guarantee that every incident is impossible.

TTL may update this policy as the service or legal requirements change. Material changes will be presented through an appropriate site or account notice when required. The date above identifies the current published version.
