Man Kills Woman Who Was Gathering Evidence Against Him

She Was Trying to Get Him Locked Up

A woman was murdered by the very man she was collecting evidence against, and police found the proof of his crimes right next to her body. She was building a case to put him behind bars. He killed her before she could finish it. And then he told investigators: "I needed to be caught."

Authorities discovered a folder containing discovery documents proving the suspect's prior crimes inside the SUV where the victim's body was found. She had been doing the work that should have been done by the system. She was gathering evidence, building a paper trail, trying to protect herself and others. And it cost her everything.

The System Failed Her

This case raises devastating questions about why this woman felt she needed to collect evidence herself. If she knew this man was dangerous enough to build a case against, why was he still free? Why was the burden of proving his crimes on his victim rather than on law enforcement?

Women across this country know the answer. The system does not always protect you. Restraining orders are pieces of paper. Reports get filed and forgotten. And sometimes the only person willing to do the work of holding a dangerous man accountable is the woman he is terrorizing.

He Knew What He Was Doing

The suspect's statement to police, "I needed to be caught," is chilling in its self-awareness. He knew he was dangerous. He knew he was committing crimes. He knew someone was building a case against him. And instead of turning himself in or stopping his behavior, he eliminated the person who was closest to exposing him.

That is not a crime of passion. That is a calculated decision to silence a witness permanently. The premeditation makes this case eligible for the most serious charges available.

Justice for the Victim

The cruel irony is that by killing her, the suspect ensured that the evidence she collected would be found by police. The folder of documents she compiled is now in the hands of prosecutors who will use it not only to charge him with her murder but potentially with the prior crimes she was documenting.

She did not die in vain. Her work will still put him away. But she should be alive to see it happen. Rest in peace to a woman who fought for justice until her last breath.
