Diddy is making moves in his legal battle. The music mogul has filed for a default judgment against Courtney Burgess after the accuser failed to respond to his $100 million defamation lawsuit, according to new court filings.
Burgess Never Responded to the Lawsuit
Sean "Diddy" Combs filed the massive defamation suit against Burgess, who had made public accusations against the rapper. After being properly served with the lawsuit, Burgess reportedly failed to file any response within the required legal timeframe.
Under federal court rules, when a defendant fails to respond to a lawsuit, the plaintiff can request a default judgment, essentially asking the court to rule in their favor without a trial. That is exactly what Diddy's legal team has now done.
What This Means
If the court grants the default judgment, Diddy could be awarded the full $100 million in damages without Burgess ever getting to present a defense. It would also serve as a powerful legal precedent for Diddy's ongoing strategy of aggressively fighting back against his accusers through the courts.
